That Commercial

I've heard about the commercial.

I didn't watch the Super Bowl so I haven't seen Coca-Cola's now infamous ad featuring America the Beautiful sung in different languages.  From what I've heard, though, the ad is an ode to multiculturalism, and the political right is quite riled up about it.  I understand their anger.  However, with all due respect to my friends on the right, I think they're overreacting just a bit.

There's a saying, taken from the title of a popular book, that is appropriate for this controversy:  don't sweat the small stuff.  And that commercial is small stuff.  Yes, I understand the implications of Coca-Cola pandering to multiculturalism and political correctness, and if the company had done that with The Star-Spangled Banner I'd be as upset as most conservatives.  Why?  Because The Star-Spangled Banner is our national anthem, the official hymn of our American identity.  America the Beautiful, while a poignantly patriotic song, is not. 

We have epic problems facing our country today.  We are 17 trillion dollars in debt.  We have an imperial president who ignores the Constitution.  We still have terrorists who want to kill us.  In the name of fighting "discrimination", gay activists are undermining our freedoms of association, speech, religion, and conscience.  Millions of Americans have lost their health insurance due to Obamacare and millions more will likely lose theirs in the near future.  Like I said, epic problems.  We can't afford to waste energy on small stuff.  We must stay focused on the real threats to America and a multi-lingual rendition of America the Beautiful isn't one of them.

"Not Ashamed"

Here's a poem/song I wrote today while at work. Actually, this little song has been percolating in my head for several months but it all came together today at work. The song is about a traditionalist--yours truly--confronting secular progressives, aka liberals, about what I believe. The tune for "Not Ashamed" is based on the music to the song "Still the Same" by the erstwhile, white nationalist duo, Prussian Blue. Yes, Prussian Blue. And yes, I sometimes listen to white power rock, even though I'm black. But so what? I listen to the far-left rock band Rage Against the Machine, even though I'm a proud right-winger. What can I say? I'm eclectic that way. Anyway, hope you like my song.

"We, the People"

Here's something all patriotic Americans should see. It's a video by a 12-year-old singer named Emily Keener. Emily appeared on Mike Huckabee's show on Saturday, Oct. 15 to sing this song, "We the People", which she wrote herself. Emily wrote the song for Constituting America's "We the People" contest and won Best Song in the middle school division. This song is quite beautiful and mature for such a young songwriter*. It gives hope to patriots like myself that not all young artists want to ape the libertine, socialist tripe that makes up so much of popular "entertainment". Emily Keener shows that there are talented kids out there who want use their artistic gifts for good. We patriots need to make sure we support such patriotic young artists like Emily. So give a listen to this song and buy her cd. You won't be sorry.




*The only "negative" about this version of the song is that the tempo is a bit too slow for my taste. The live version Emily performed on Huckabee's show was a bit faster. Also, her singing could be a bit louder. But she is only 12. I'm sure Emily will only improve with age.

Tribute To The Troops

This is my late D-Day and Memorial Day post. Sorry I didn't post anything on those actual days. I've had my mind on other things and yesterday when I finally got online in the evening Blogger was down. So I'm posting my ode to our gallant fighting men today. It's a song I wrote back in '07 and first posted on Sinistra's Bane--then PoorGrrl Zone--on February 20 of that year. The song is called "Hail Us Now Our Great Defenders!". It's sung to Beethoven's "Ode to Joy". Enjoy and honor the troops!

This song popped into my head almost fully formed when I was putting my day care babies to sleep. "Ode to Joy" was playing as the nap time music and the words just came to me. I'm rather proud of my little ode to the troops and I thought it was time to bring it out again. Hope you enjoyed it!

Tribute To The Fallen At Fort Hood

I'm not yet ready to write on the horror that occured at Fort Hood yesterday. I found this AWESOME song on a blog called Power and Control. It was posted to honor the victims of the evil and cowardly act that transpired Thursday. I'm putting this song on PGZ also to honor the dead and wounded at Fort Hood and in all of the military in this time of war. So listen up, here's some real manly and patriotic rock'n'roll. It'll cheer you and scare the hell out of that jihadi trash!

The REAL Holy Warriors!!!!

I'm having a bit of writer's block so I decided to post a video paying tribute to our troops. I went to YouTube looking for one particular video but ended up finding three that rocked my world. I've posted those videos below. One of them has strong language for which I apologize, but if you can overlook the profanity I think you'll enjoy the vid. "If I Die Before You Wake"

Here's another tribute to our magnificent armed forces from another entertainer who gets it. I found this video when I went on YouTube to look for something completely different. This tribute to our fighting men and women was in the Recommended For You section when I logged in to the site. The title of the song intrigued me and I decided to give the vid a look see. Boy, am I glad I did! And you will be, too. The poignant song is by Dustin Evans. I don't know who he is but he gets a big thumbs up for this heartfelt musical tribute to the ones who keep us free and safe. Good on you, Dustin!

Tribute To The Marines

If you like "The March Of Cambreath", the first song in my collection of battle hymns, then you'll love this video tribute to the mighty Marines set to this stirring war cry. While I love and admire ALL of our armed forces I must admit that, as the niece of a leatherneck, the Marines hold a special place in my heart. So pull up a chair, turn up your PC speakers, and feast on this awesome tribute to the Few, the Proud, the American Terminators...the MARINES!!!!!

A Rocker Who Gets It

I don't listen to a lot of Kid Rock so I didn't know about this song. It's called "Warrior" and it's a tribute to the Army National Guard. I saw the video tonight when I was at the movies. I was deeply moved by both the video and the song. I wish more rockers were patriotic enough to sing songs and make videos like this. I'm sending a shout out to Kid Rock. Kid, you did a good 'un!

This song popped into my head yesterday while I was playing classical music for my babies' nap time. Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" was on and almost instantly the above tribute to our troops emerged in my mind. I know it sounds quite martial, but it's an ode to our fighting men and women, not to Jane Fonda and her crowd. Let me know what you think of it. I may write other songs for America inspired by my favorite music, classical and otherwise.
