But What About The Children?

Today in Afghanistan the Taliban killed eight American soldiers with roadside bombs, helping to make this October the deadliest month for the US since the war began. This is sad, and my heart goes out to the soldiers' families, but on Fox News I learned that some Afghan civilians, including children, were also killed in these attacks. Now my question is this: where are all the peace activists and Muslims who always raise a hue and cry when ever children are killed by Americans?

Muslims and their left-wing, "anti-war" allies, opposed the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan largely because of supposed concern over the fate of civilians, especially children. In order to ensure the safety of civilians, and to ass kiss the Muslim world, Barack Obama has instituted idiotic rules of engagement for our brave troops in Afghanistan. Put simply, our ground forces are not, repeat NOT, allowed to call in air support if civilians are in the area. You don't need a Phd to know that, in order to protect themselves, the Taliban will hide behind civilians, including children, as they attack our soldiers. But increasing the danger for our troops is apparently acceptable to our appeaser-in-chief. We must not give even the appearance of not caring about Muslim civilians, yet the Taliban kill Muslim children and the 'ummah is silent. And so are the pacifists.

This silence reveals the truth about the Muslims and the "pacifists". They are NOT against war, terrorism, or violence of any kind. What they are against is American power. For them, "peace" means "the absence of American power on the world stage", as conservative journalist Mark Steyn aptly put it. Any act of violence whose goal is to obstruct or defeat American power is acceptable to Muslims and the Left. And the killing of civilians, including children, is forgivable if said killings occur in pursuit of that goal. Civilian deaths are unforgivable only when they happen at the hands of Americans. For Muslims and the "anti-war" Left American power is the only evil in the world. They will effect any outrage necessary to contain or defeat it.

So, what about the children? Nothing, because Muslims and the Left have nothing to gain from making a fuss over Muslims killing Muslim children. Such killings don't arouse fierce opposition to American power. Muslim children were murdered today by Muslim fanatics and the Muslim world and its friends said nothing. And that speaks volumes.

English Only Please!

There's something that happens every week at work that really irritates me.

Every Friday morning at work we have a meeting; ok, fine. The meeting is usually short and occasionally even informative; the problem is that the Big Boss always has a Spanish interpreter at the meeting. Everything she says is translated into Spanish for all the Hispanic workers. This upsets me; this is not right.

We are in America, not Mexico. America is an English speaking country. English is the language of American culture and American identity. It is the language of America's history and heritage. English is the language of America's founding documents, her classic art, and her national discourse. English is the linguistic glue that helps to hold this dynamic nation together; it's a key ingredient that puts the "Unum" in E pluribus unum: Out of many, one. In short, English solidifies who we are as a people. For immigrants to become American, as opposed to just being in America, they must speak English. They--and American citizens--are free to use any language they want at home, but they must understand that English is the language of public life and national identity.

Some will say that my view is racist and violates the principles of diversity and multiculturalism. I say no. Multiculturalism and diversity aren't always and inherently good. When they weaken national cohesion and encourage the Balkanization of the nation they are not only bad, but dangerous. Having an English only policy in the public square, including work, can help put a check on diversity and multi-culti inspired disunity and parochialism. If immigrants want to be American as they claim, they should have no problem with the primacy of English in America.

And my view isn't racist. What's racist is the expectation of many Latinos that they should be catered to in their native tongue, regardless of the inconvenience or unfairness to anyone else. Hispanics aren't the only people at my job--or in America--whose native language isn't English. There are Asian and African immigrants who work at the warehouse. However, at our Friday morning meetings the Big Boss never has interpreters to translate her words into Vietnamese or Swahili. Why not? I mean, if the demand of multiculturalism is that all cultures should be respected, then shouldn't the Asian and African workers have the meetings in their native tongues? Why are Hispanics deemed the only non-English speakers worthy of translators? Why do they feel themselves to be so entitled? That's the real racism.

The American ideal is equality; everyone is treated the same. All Americans should live up to the same expectations and abide by the same rules. When it comes to language, equality is expecting everyone to use the same linguistic medium of exchange in public life. It's recognizing that America, like every other nation, has it's own history, heritage, and culture that Americans have a right to preserve within their own borders. And immigrants have to respect that. If Hispanics feel they're being victimized by having to speak English they should remember Billy Wilder. Who's Billy Wilder?

Samuel "Billy" Wilder was a renowned Hollywood screen writer and director who wrote and/or directed such classic films as Double Indemnity, Sunset Boulevard, and Some Like It Hot. Wilder was also an immigrant, an Austrian Jew who arrived in America from Nazi Germany via France in 1933. One of the first things Wilder did after arriving in America was learn English. He didn't whine that he was a victim of racism because everything wasn't handed to him in his native language. Instead, Wilder understood that he was no longer in his native country and his native language no longer applied. Wilder learned a new "native" tongue, became a citizen, and then created some of the greatest movies in Hollywood's history. Billy Wilder knew he was expected to learn English and he did. If a White immigrant had to learn English to make it in America, Hispanics have no right to cry "Racism!" when they are expected to do the same.

One of the planks in comprehensive immigration reform is that immigrants/illegal aliens have to learn English. If we're serious about that then we must stop making it easy for immigrants and illegals to function without knowing English. And we certainly must stop catering to one non-English speaking group over all the others. Equality, as stated above, means the same rules and expectations for everyone. Billy Wilder had to learn English, and he was White. Non-Whites can't now demand a different standard for themselves. It's time to kick the translators out of the meeting. English only, please!

Are You Liberal Or Conservative?

This is a cool post I found on the Independent Thinkers Lounge blog. I asked the author, Southern Sage, if I could put this post here and he said yes. Have a look see and find out if you're a liberal or a conservative.

Are You Liberal Or Conservatie?

The truest comparison I have ever seen!

If a conservative doesn't like guns, he doesn't buy one.
If a liberal doesn't like guns,he wants all guns outlawed.

If a conservative is a vegetarian, he doesn't eat meat.
If a liberal is a vegetarian, he wants all meat products banned for everyone.

If a conservative sees a foreign threat, he thinks about how to defeat his enemy.
A liberal wonders how to surrender gracefully and still look good.

If a conservative is homosexual, he quietly leads his life.
If a liberal is homosexual, he demands legislated respect.

If a black or Hispanic man is conservative, he sees himself as independently successful. His liberal counterpart sees himself as a victim in need of government protection.

If a conservative is down-and-out, he thinks about how to better his situation.
A liberal wonders who's going to take care of him.

If a conservative doesn't like a talk show host, he switches channels.
Liberals demand that those they don't like be shut down.

If a conservative is a non-believer, he doesn't go to church.
A liberal non-believer wants any mention of God and religion silenced. (Unless it's a foreign religion, of course!)

Ifa conservative decides he needs health care, he goes about shopping for it, or may choose a job that provides it.
A liberal demands that the rest of us pay for his.

If a conservative slips and falls in a store, he gets up, laughs and is embarrassed.
If a liberal slips and falls, he grabs his neck, moans like he's in labor and then sues.

If a conservative reads this, he'll send it to his friends and they'll have a good laugh. A liberal won't delete it because he's "offended", he will cry and piss himself and lay in the fetal position in his own urine for the rest of the day because that's what liberals do.

Hope all's well!

A Little Story About "Free" Health Care

For all those people who believe in government funded, universal health care, here's a little story that shows what's wrong with that idea.

Several years ago I worked at a fast food restaurant. One day one of my co-workers complained of having a headache. Trying to be nice, I offered her a couple of the Advil tablets I always carried with me. She happily took them and soon felt better. A few days later another co-worker had some sort of pain and asked me for some Advil. Trying to be nice again, I said sure. He took them, his pain went away, and all was right with the world. Then, a few days later this scenario repeated itself. My co-worker took the Advil, his pain left, but all wasn't right with the world that time.

After it became known that I was the girl with the meds, every day somebody had a ache or a pain and came to me for relief. I became a provider of free "health care" for my co-workers. Free, that is, to them. It was costing ME money. I had to put a stop to it, and I closed the free drug store. No more Advil, I told my co-workers. From now on they had to buy their own, just like I did.

Do you see the lesson in this little story? Something that started out as a friendly gesture quickly turned into an entitlement. Nice people, my co-workers, developed the bad attitude of what I call "expectant ingratitude". Expectant ingratitude is when people expect to be given stuff and then are ungrateful for it because they believe they're entitled to it. They care nothing about the effort and expense involved in providing that stuff for them because they're not involved in said effort and expense. They're only involved in getting "free" stuff. That's what happened to my co-workers; not one of them offered to help me pay for all that Advil. That's why the Advil faucet got shut off.

Expectant ingratitude is what will happen on a national scale with universal, government funded health care. People will liberally and carelessly use things they have no personal stake in. "Free" health care will become an entitlement we simply can't afford, but the country won't be able to shut off the faucet as easily as I did. It will bankrupt the country. That can be avoided, but only if we heed the lessons of human nature...and this little story about "free" health care.
